If you have inches but want millimeters, proceed as follows:In order of decreasing size…

1/16 inch is almost 2mm

1/8 inch is a little greater than 3mm.

1/4 inch is somewhat greater than 6mm.

3/8 inch is nearly ten millimeters

1/2 inch is around 13mm.

16mm is the same as 5/8 inch.

19mm is equivalent to 3/4 inch.

7/8 inch Equals little over 22mm

1 inch is equivalent to 25.4 millimeters.

If you have millimeters but need inches, apply the formula below:

1mm is little more than 1/32 of an inch.

2mm = little more than a sixteenth of an inch

4mm ≈ 5/32 inch (about 1/8 inch)

5mm is little greater than 3/16 inch. 6mm is about 1/4 inch.

7mm is about 9/32 inch (= little more than 1/4 inch).

Eight millimeters is equivalent to five-sixteenths of an inch.

10mm equates to little more than 3/8 inch

12mm is almost 15/32 inch (around 1/2 inch).

13mm is little more than half an inch.

16mm is about equivalent to 5/8 inch.

17mm is equivalent to around 11/16 inch. 18mm equates to little more than 11/16 inch

19mm equals 3/4 inch; 20mm equals 25/32 inch; and 21mm is little over 13/16 inch.

23mm is equal to 29/32 inch. 24mm equals little more than 15/16 inch 25mm is about 1 inch.

Calculators for Conversion

If you have inches and would want to convert them to millimeters, follow these steps:

To begin, convert any inch fraction to a decimal value.

1 divided by 4 equals 0.25 inch 1/4 inch

For example, 1/16 inch equals 1 divided by 16 is 0.0625 inch.

For values more than an inch, convert the fractional component first and then add the complete inch component:

For instance, 2-1/4 inch is one divided by four, plus two equals 2.25 inch.

For example, 1-5/8 inch is 5 divided by 8, plus 1 equals 1.625 inch.

The second step is multiplying the decimal by 25.4.

The whole procedure for each of the above examples would be as follows:

1/4 inch = 1 multiplied by 4 equals 6.35mm (6mm)

1/16 inch equals one divided by sixteen multiplied by 25.4 equals 1.5875 (1.6mm)

2-1/4 inch equals 1 divided by 4 + 2, multiplied by 25.4 equals 57.15. (57mm)

5 divided by 8 + 1 multiplied by 25.4 equals 41.275 inch (41mm)

If you have millimeters (or centimeters) and want to convert to inches, follow these steps:

To begin, multiply your millimeter measurement by 25.4. (or divide your centimeter amount by 2.54)

Two millimeters divided by twenty-five millimeters = twenty-five millimeters.

In Example 1, 07874 inches are used.

Six millimeters divided by twenty-five millimeters = twenty-five millimeters.

In Example 2, 2362 inches are used.

In Example 3, 30mm divided by 25.4 equals 1.1811 inches.

In Example 4, 4cm divided by 2.54 equals 1.5748 inches.

You may use this decimal value directly to get the number of 6mm beads required for a 20′′ necklace. From Example 2, you already know that a 6mm bead equals.2362 inches.

Therefore, twenty inches divided by.2362 inches = 84.67 beads per necklace.

I’d round down to 80 beads to allow for bead tips and a clasp. The chart below illustrates the quantity of beads on each strand.

If you like fractions of an inch (1/16, 1/4, 1/2), try this:

The second step is to transform the decimal to a useful fraction:

I like to round my measurements to the nearest 1/16-inch increment. Divide your decimal value by 16 to get the nearest 1/16 inch. As a consequence, the amount of 1/16’s of an inch you have is determined.

Using the figures from Step 1, construct the following:

07874 divided by 16 is 1.26, or around 1/16 inch.

2362 divided by 16 is 3.779, which rounds to 4, or about 4/16.

For values more than an inch, it is easiest to exclude the whole inch and then reintroduce it after converting the part after the decimal point:

1.1811 By omitting the 1, you get. 1811 divided by 16 is 2.9, which equals 3, or around 3/16 inch… Remember to replace the 1 for a total of 1-3/16 inch.

1.5748 By omitting the 1, you get. 5748 divided by 16 = 9.1968, which is 9 or around 9/16 inch… Remember to replace the 1 for a total of 1-9/16 inch.

For jewelry purposes, I do not suggest rounding to larger fractions, such as 1/4 or even 1/8 inch. If you are not manufacturing jewelry or if your specifications are imprecise, you may round to a larger percentage, such as 1/4. Simply substitute 4s for all 16s in Step 2’s examples to round to the nearest 1/4 of an inch.

Using the figures from step 1, which I also used in step 2, you get….07874 multiplied by four equals.315, which rounds to zero and gives you 0/4 of an inch (not a very useful quantity!).

Multiplying 2362 by four equals.

9448, which is rounded to a single digit and represents a quarter-inch measurement (which happens to be accurate)
