When wearing a rope chain as bling, whether silver, gold, platinum or stainless steel, you may question how thick the chain is. Measuring the thickness of a rope chain follows the same steps as measuring the diameter — or thickness — of wire rope, but on a much smaller scale, in millimeters rather than inches. A caliper measures the thickness of a chain instantly and accurately.
Open the caliper jaws so that the chain may fit between them.
Turn the chain such that the outermost tips of the metal wires that make up the rope chain are between and contact the jaws of the caliper.
Close the jaws and use the caliper’s output to determine the thickness of the chain.
